Keep your stitching gifts in pristine condition!

In our latest issue Rebecca has concentrated on looking after your stitching in her monthly Q&A section. Everything from handling and washing your stitching to the safe storage of your prized pieces has been covered in the handy guide.

If you give your stitching away as gifts (which we are sure many of you do!) then here’s a great way to make sure the recipient knows how to look after their special gift to keep it in the best condition.

Simply attach this cute note to the back of the frame or within your gift-wrap to be sure your piece of stitching is looked after!

Merry Christmas to all our readers!

Most of you are probably tucking into a nice roast turkey with stuffing right now (or a veggie option if you're that way inclined) but we've written this message anyway to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

We've shut down the office for a few days over the festive period whilst we eat our own body weight in roast potatoes...

...but we'll be back very soon with more blog posts on new events for 2010 as well as the usual gossip and details of exciting new projects to look forward to!

Whilst we are here, we'd like to take the time to show you this pretty picture of just a few of the lovely cards and handcrafted gifts we received here in the office.

It's very kind of you, so thanks everyone!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from the team at CrossStitcher

Catch the wooly bug with Shaun the Sheep . . .

With Aardman recently celebrating their 25th anniversary Shaun the Sheep, along with many other popular characters, have been more than noticeable this last month!

Since Shaun has always proved popular with stitchers, the
CrossStitcher team decided to make him our Kids' stitch this month with this baaa-rillaint back pack!

But, that's not all!... The team over at our sister magazine
Simply Knitting
have also been on the ball this month.

They're got a really funky pattern for a Shaun the Sheep Nintendo DS case!

Editor Deborah Bradley said: “Shaun is a favourite with children and adults everywhere – and the Simply Knitting team is no exception.

"The case is knitted entirely in stocking stitch and the fleecy texture is created using a woolly yarn rather than complicated stitches so even new knitters or kids will be able to manage it!”

We think this is a perfect chance for you to try you hand at a new hobby, so look out for it on the news stand when you pick up your copy of CrossStitcher...

Rain rain everywhere...

It's been a pretty miserable weekend down here in Somerset, buckets of rain and strong winds have made it impossible to arrive at work this morning looking anything less than wind swept.

Facing us now is the daunting task of Christmas shopping, which we still haven't started (we really need to get a move on - advent starts tomorrow!) and whilst the prospect of a broken umbrella and wet socks are all too realistic, we're opting for the 'staying indoors and keeping warm option'... and so can you!

Why not give someone the perfect present - from the comfort of your own home? Give someone a whole year of inspiration with a subscription to CrossStitcher. The best bit is that if you order now you'll save up to 40% - our best
price this year!

Ordering is easy…

Just quote discount code: Z614 and call 0844 848 2852 (lines are open Mon-Fri 8am – 9.30pm, Sat 8am – 4pm) or visit
www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/Z614

Save time and money on your Christmas shopping (whilst avoiding getting wet) and treat someone to a gift that will keep giving all year around!

What's best is that with over 60 magazines to choose from, there's something to suit everyone. So, even if they're not into cross stitching
take a look
- you might find something they are into!

PS: We know this offer is too good to miss so we’ll totally understand if you treat yourself instead…

Offer ends: 31st January 2010

Always save room for pie . . .

For those of you who don’t already know - today is Thanksgiving!

The day American people celebrate the Pilgrims first harvest in their new world, or something like that... (Ask Rebecca our Technical Editor, she's American.)

As a treat for Rebecca, we've brought in biscuits, nachos and chocolate covered nuts. Not the traditional Thanksgiving food she's probably used to but we couldn't exactly roast a turkey at work now could we?

Luckily, she's making a Thanksgiving dinner this evening and it sounds delicious: "I'm making pecan and apple pes but we'll also be having turkey, vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing and corn bread!"

After thinking about food all morning we've found this gorgeous contemporary
Thanksgiving Pie
by Sue Hillis, and you'll see it's even got a cute fork charm if you look closely enough!

She’s got so much to look at on
her website
, you’re sure to be inspired by her folksy designs. We love her use of text and bright cartoon images, they're lovely!

It’s obviously a bit late to stitch this for Thanksgiving 2009, but perhaps you’ll find some inspiration for a Thanksgiving stitch next year?

PS: Take a look at her blog
too; it’s full of bright and yummy designs... mmm... pie...

Did I really just hear Jingle Bells on the radio?

Yes, it’s that time of year again when the shops start playing festive tunes, the Christmas lights are being turned on by local celebrities and you find yourself meandering through department stores trying to find gift tags and wrapping paper before you miss your train home…

Believe it or not, there’s only five more Saturdays before Christmas day and if you’re anything like us (working all week and writing Christmas cards in your lunch hour!) then the daunting task of shopping at the weekend seems just ludicrous.

Well, to make it a little bit easier for you we’ve got some special subscription deals for CrossStitcher magazine as well as lots of other great titles too!

You can save up to 40% on some great magazines (including ours of course!) and the best part is you can order a subscription online without having to even leave the house! (Perfect if you really don’t want to deal with the hustle and bustle of your local high street in search for that perfect gift)

Simply go to www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk
or call 0844 848 2852 and quote code z601 to buy a subscription for someone special this year.

With over 60 titles to choose from there really is something for everyone!

Playstation - perfect for my little brother
Simpy Knitting - perfect for my mum
Classic Rock - perfect for my dad
Total Film  - perfect for my movie mad uncle

Why waste time trawling through the shops when you can get someone a great gift they will enjoy the whole year through... ?

Craft Crunch - blog review

Crafts Crunch
describe themselves as "a collection of artists and craft-folk determined to encourage people to beat the recession by being more creative" and we think that’s splendid!

Since the credit crunch has taken its toll on our hobby expenditure it can be quite hard to think of new craft ideas that don't break the bank.

Well, this London lot have hit the nail on the head with this trendy, innovative and inspiring blog. Carefully selected posts, about everything from knitting to badge making, are featured alongside coverage of some of the hippest designers such as
Phil Davidson (Urban Cross Stitch
).

Presenting their finds as “boutique style at Primarni prices” the site celebrates new British crafters, from textile designers to jewellery makers, by featuring their crafts and information on where to buy their interesting pieces.

If you're into contemporary city craft or live near the big smoke, then this is definitely the blog for you...
